London took control of British Steel: China reacted with a harsh statement

China called on the UK to "make informed decisions" regarding the plans to nationalize British Steel and warned that it would protect Chinese businesses.

This is reported by Sky News.

The British government took over operational control of British Steel from its Chinese owners, the Jingye Group, in April 2025.

The plans announced by Prime Minister Keir Starmer on May 11 could lead to a complete nationalization of the company.

On May 14, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce called on the British government to "respect the wishes of companies and market principles and avoid the abuse of administrative enforcement measures."

The ministry said in a statement that China will closely monitor developments and "take decisive measures to protect the legitimate rights of Chinese companies."

Starmer said nationalization would make Britain "stronger"
