Global steel production fell by 2%

By the end of 2025, global steel production decreased by 2% year–on-year to 1.8 billion tons. This is evidenced by the global ranking of steel producing countries (70) by the World Steel Association.

The total steel production in the CIS + Ukraine by the end of 2025 decreased by 4.4% YoY, to 81.3 million tons, in part in Ukraine decreased by 2.2% YoY, to 7.41 million tons.

According to World Steel, lice were among the top ten steel-producing countries last year.:

  • China – 960.8 million tons (-4.4% YoY);
  • India-164.9 million tons (+10.4%);
  • USA-82 million tons (+3.1%);
  • Japan-80.7 million tons (-4%);
  • Russia-67.8 million tons (-4.5%);
  • South Korea - 61.9 million tons (-2.8%);
  • Turkey-38.1 million tons (+3.3%);
  • Germany – 34.1 (-8.6%);
  • Brazil-33.3 million tons (-1.6%);
  • Iran – 31.8 million tons (+1.4%).

In December last year, global steel output decreased by 3.7% compared to the same period in 2024, to 139.6 million tons. In the CIS + Ukraine countries, this figure decreased by 2.7% year–on-year to 6.9 million tons.
